Our Story

Our adventure began 20 years ago when I (Beco) met my now-husband, Eric, in the U.S., and we discovered our shared love for Paris. Over the years, our passion for France’s culture, language, and way of life grew, leading us to take the leap a little more than a decade after meeting.

The move wasn’t easy—navigating visas, legal paperwork, starting a business as a strategy consultant (Beco), and transitioning to life as a communications consultant (Eric) after a career as an educator. But just five months after deciding to make it happen, we became official residents of France. Since then, we’ve embraced the joys and quirks of life here, achieving permanent residency and, ultimately, French citizenship.

Through it all, we’ve learned so much—the hidden gems, the cultural adjustments, and the “why didn’t anyone warn us?” moments. We created The Ultimate Guide to Americans Moving to France to share our experience and help others make their dream of living in France a reality, with less stress and more joy.

A Final Note

We’re not relocation experts or legal advisors. Our sessions focus on sharing our personal experiences and insights to guide you on your journey. We strongly encourage anyone seriously considering a move to France, regardless of the path, to consult a qualified lawyer and/or accountant for legal or financial advice. While our guide provides invaluable resources and tips, these professionals are essential for addressing the unique aspects of your potential move.

To make this easier, the guide includes contact information for the lawyer who successfully worked with us—from obtaining our visa prior to arrival all the way through to gaining French citizenship—as well as the accountant we trust for both our business and personal taxes. These professionals have been invaluable to our own relocation and ongoing life in France.
